Download Alpha

Entropy 0.1.3 is an early desktop build. It helps you write in Markdown and understand files on your computer without moving or copying them into an app-owned library. Expect rough edges.

Installers

What's in 0.1.3

  • Library can open another drive, USB, or extra folder from the path menu — it lists that volume only
  • Search and a new Recent view use a rebuildable name index of the drive you have open
  • New sessions open in the light theme; a theme you already saved as dark stays dark

Expect bugs

This is alpha software. Things may break, feel unfinished, or behave oddly on some machines. Do not use it yet as the only place for irreplaceable workflows. Keep backups of anything important, the way you already would with early tools.

Your notes stay as Markdown on disk. Entropy does not claim ownership of your files. If something goes wrong, your files should still be where the operating system left them.

Installing

Windows

Download the .exe, run it, and follow the installer. You can choose the install folder. After setup, open Entropy from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.

macOS

Open the .dmg, drag Entropy into Applications, then launch it from there. On first open, macOS may ask you to confirm because the build is not notarized yet.

Linux

Prefer the AppImage for a portable tryout: make it executable, then run it. Or install the .deb on Debian/Ubuntu-based systems with your package tool.

If antivirus or Windows blocks it

Early builds are unsigned. Windows SmartScreen, macOS Gatekeeper, and some antivirus tools often warn on new apps from independent developers. That warning is about missing certificates - not a signal that Entropy scanned your files to phone home.

  • Windows SmartScreen - Choose More info, then Run anyway if you trust this download from the official Entropy downloads page.
  • Windows antivirus - If a product quarantines the installer, restore it from quarantine or allow the file from an exception list after you have confirmed the URL is github.com/Charlsz/entropy on GitHub.
  • macOS - If macOS says the app cannot be opened, go to System Settings, Privacy and Security, scroll to the message about Entropy, and choose Open. Or Control-click the app, choose Open, then Open again.

Only install builds linked from this site or the official GitHub Releases.
